Chelsea can fill £252m transfer blackhole with free upgrades to nab Man City exit – Anita Abayomi
Chelsea’s top scorer in the Premier League has seven goals to his name and the irony is that he hasn’t played a single minute for the club this season.
Conor Gallagher is the Premier League’s top scorer with Mason Mount in the ranks of Chelsea. Can’t say I’m surprised, however, joining the top three is Armando Broja. Considering the amount of money spent on Chelsea’s current attack, that makes me wonder if it was worth it?
The Blues have struggled to match Manchester City’s dominance in recent years, but perhaps they would have been closer with a talent that was right under their noses.
We can never be too satisfied as Chelsea fans. We currently sit comfortably in third place in the Premier League. We have just won the Club World Cup and we are in yet another final with the Carabao Cup. What more could we ask for?
Closing the gap and overtaking Manchester City has been the goal of all Premier League clubs since the arrival of Pep Guardiola. Only Chelsea and Liverpool have managed to beat him for the title in his six-year reign, and that worries me.
Especially since one of Chelsea’s biggest flaws is their inability to kill games and score goals.
Thomas Tuchel’s attack lacks goals. The Premier League’s top scorer is Mason Mount with just seven games in 21 games.
The gap between City and Chelsea is wider than we thought despite spending money this summer on an all-star attack. While Chelsea have taken a chance on Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja, the gap may have narrowed slightly this season.
Gallagher has scored seven Premier League goals from midfield this season while Broja has netted six. It’s not the best stat in the grand scheme of things, however, it’s an improvement on what Chelsea’s current attack has recorded. Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech have a combined tally of six Premier League goals this season, the same as Broja. Lukaku has five.
The Blues spent £252million to close the gap between themselves and Man City, but their homegrown talent could have been more valuable. I am grateful for European trophies and Club World Cup victories. In fact, this is the pinnacle of success for Roman Abramovich. However, it’s clear that Chelsea’s future hinges on free updates.

I wouldn’t trade all the trophies we’ve won in the last two years for the world. It was an incredible achievement for these young men and for the fans. However, winning the Premier League is a feat that our northern English rivals make look so easy.
If we want to close the gap to Manchester City, we will need all the shooting power we have. We cannot afford to offer other Premier League teams our homegrown talent in the future. Given the development of Mason Mount’s game, I can only imagine what Thomas Tuchel could have done with Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja at his discretion.
